Creative will Add 40GB Zen Touch

In a not entirely unexpected move, Creative has announced a 40GB version of their new Zen Touch audio player. Previously only a 20GB model had been announced.

The odd thing about the announcement is that no Zen Touch's of any size or shape have been shipped! Back in June Creative said "end of the month". Now, near the end of July, they say it's "available for shipment this month at US$269.99". I'm not holding my breath. I say we set up a pool between the Zen Touch ship date and the new iRiver firmware release...

In any case, Amazon is taking pre-orders for the Zen Touch at $270.

I wonder how many people are going to accept WMA at 64kbps? I think a 20GB player is a 20GB player. To first order most people will fill it with existing mp3s that are 128, 192 and larger.

This people doesn't deserve to call their company CREATIVE... OR, the are trying to be REALLY funny. A cartoon COPY of the iPod? C'mon...

I have a Creative Zen NX, 30GB and it is pretty amazing. I paid half of what an IPod costs and it works wonderfully. Sure IPod is popular, but is it worth the cost or trouble to deal with Apple proprietary crap, I think not. Looking to get my wife one and the Touch seems a great step in the right direction. "Shame on Creative", what a stupid comment. Seems Creative would know more about sound management than Appley anyway. Instead, "shame on Apple and Ipod for making proprietary, overpriced devices that merely prop up their inadequate computer business."

Jon B, how ignorant are you.
You say the Zen is a 'cartoon copy of the ipod'. If you even compared the specifications of both of these machines you will see that they are quite different.
Oh sorry, silly me, you're just talking about it's appearance aren't you? Dude, just because it's pretty looking doesn't make it any better. Come to think of it, maybe the zen changed it's image in the hope that fools like you might fall for the 'lets buy the prettiest one!' Trap.
Shame on creative? Shame on you Jon, shame on you.

yeah the zen jukebox is wicked. i have had one for a year and am upgrading to the zen touch! the sound quality is clear and weighted and the build quality superb. The ipod is the rip-off, it just doesnt cut it. The Ipod has a built in battery which costs around £90 to replace and you have to use apples' software!

The zen touch's major disadvantage that will become more and more evident is it's non-replacable battery.
What happened Creative? - you almost had it with the Zen Xtra and now you are creating a clone of the iPod!
Not good at all.
