If you just can't wait for the major, forthcoming (no really) iRiver firmware update for it H-series of audio players, here's something to play with. Some intrepid Japanese hackers have created the iriver H Series Firmware Customizer (machine translation here). The application lets you tweak some of the look and feel, such as the boot display image. As far as we can tell, it only works on Japanese devices, so YMMV. [Via DAP Review]
Should work on non-japanese iHPs too. I am running the japanese 1.40 on a "german" device. You can select the region (does not change language - only encoding of id3 tags) in the japanese version!
Here in germany it gives you the ability to tune into restricted fm-frequencies since the limiting frequencies in radio-mode are modified... :)
This 'iHP firmware customizer' is a front end to my firmware modification tools! I wrote these, so I know they work on US & European iHP devices ;-)

I've just bought an iRiver H300 and want to upgrade the firmware. But iriver.com's website can't be contacted and my nearest website in Australia doesn't seem to have any such downloads.
What to do??
Seen other people are making their H10's play mpegs, how do we do it ... Whats the go with destrict the polar conducts? call me a dumbass but yeh can anyone help me.
